Dream Theater released their debut studio album "When Dream and Day Unite" in 1989. With Charlie Dominici on vocals, they took the first steps to becoming one of the most famous progressive metal bands in the world. Already on this first album you can clearly hear what later became the band's distinctive musical signature. Dream Theater reveal their influences from 70s and 80s progressive rock, from spastic riffs to jazzy passages. A milestone in the evolution of progressive metal, the album is full of atmospheric keyboard sounds, epic vocals and powerful riffs. Crucially, "When Dream and Day Unite" was a great start on the road to the huge popularity the band would enjoy years later. After the release of their first best-selling album "Images & Words" (1992), they finally managed to break through and gain a very large audience. To date, Dream Theater have sold more than 13 million records worldwide.
