Four years after the highly acclaimed "Safe Trip Home" became the third million-selling album of her career, "Girl Who Got Away" is Dido's fourth album. The singer-songwriter has sold an incredible 29 million records worldwide. It's no exaggeration to say that she made her best album to date with "Girl Who Got Away". It contains songs of hope, defiance and heartbreak that make the world fall head over heels in love with Dido all over again. While recording "Girl Who Got Away", Dido often thought back to the making of "No Angel" - her legendary debut, which is still one of the best-selling albums of the century. Just as she did on her first album, with which she conquered the world, she enchants listeners with her beautiful electronic sounds, her equally smooth and powerful voice, and a host of songs that you can't get out of your head after the first listen. Warm, touching and full of love for life's little details, "Girl Who Got Away" is both modern and timeless - and therefore simply a classic Dido album. As with "No Angel" (and, of course, the following album, "Life For Rent"), most of the songs full of insight and life optimism were written and produced by Dido and her brother, Faithless founder Rollo Armstrong. As in the early days, she worked on the songs without ever imagining that anyone would ever hear them. "Making the record was incredibly fun," she says. "I didn't feel any pressure. Everything happened naturally and with great ease." Dido had a great time, whether she was working on the music alone at her kitchen table or with trusted partners like Brian Eno, Jeff Bhasker, Rick Nowels, Greg Kurstin and, of course, Rollo, in various home studios or hotel rooms on both sides of the Atlantic. "On every other album I've done, there have been some pretty difficult days," he says, "but on this album there was not one." Much of the album was written before the summer of 2011 (shortly after she received an Oscar nomination for "If I Rise," a song she recorded with A.R. Rahman for the film "127 Hours"), when Dido had her first child. "I wrote all the songs on the album before I got pregnant," she recalls, "and a lot of the songs were recorded during the pregnancy. It's funny when I think back to how I sang those things, for example on the song 'Girl Who Got Away' the baby kicked me so hard I thought I was going to fall!" The entire album, which Dido completed in the second half of 2012 after a year's maternity leave, shines with indomitable optimism. The positive spirit is evident in, among other things, the cheerful "Go Dreaming" or the ode to true love "No Freedom" (the first single released!) and the dynamic "Let Us Move On", which features a guest appearance by today's hottest rapper Kendrick Lamar. The positive approach to life, however, shines through especially in the folky, autobiographical "Sitting On The Roof Of The World". Still, it's not all sunshine on "Girl Who Got Away": in some songs, Dido once again proves his talent for wrapping unpleasant lyrics in seductive melodies. The driving "End Of The Night", for example, may sound at first glance like one of the most cheerful songs in her repertoire - it's actually more of a cruel break-up song. "Blackbird" unfolds in a delicate way. And the album title? "It comes from one of my favorite songs on the album," she explains, "but it also sums up the last few years. I took a step back and embarked on a perfectly happy adventure, started a family and recorded an album that I'm incredibly proud of. And now I can't wait for people to hear my songs." She may indeed be "the girl who got sidetracked" - but there's not the slightest doubt: Dido is back. Review , "The well-known producers made sure to alternate between different sounds, appeal to a wide audience, and with Kendrick Lamar, she brought the current top of the American rap scene into the studio as a partner for the duet "Love To Blame." (Good Times, April/May 2013) , "Lovely: arguably the most underrated pop music in the world." (Rolling Stone, March 2013) "On her fourth album, the queen of British feel-good pop continues to flood the ear canals with her usual cuddly harmonies and dreamy, keyboard-heavy mid-tempo songs." (Audio, April 2013)
Album spans genres Pop, Electronic, Vocal, Synth-pop and Europop.
