Buddy Guy is the epitome of Chicago blues and has influenced many notable guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa and John Mayer. "Sweet Tea" is primarily an album of cover versions, with Buddy delving into Mississippi Hill Country Blues and covering songs by various big names in the genre. Guy interprets at least four Junior Kimbrough songs on it. Much of the record is what is now known as trance blues with long, sometimes meandering trance interludes. From the twelve-minute "I Got to Try It, Girl" to Guy's closing track "It's a Jungle Out There," "Sweet Tea" has all the elements of a classic blues album.
