The title of the album is a reference to the movie American Pie, in which the main character Jim is caught by his mother masturbating. The first single from the album, "The Rock Show", was released on April 9, 2001. The album's second single, "What's My Age Again?", was released on July 9, 2001. The album's third single, "All the Small Things", was released on December 3, 2001. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album received universally positive reviews from music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic awarded the album four stars out of five, calling it "a return to the infectious pop-punk that made Blink-182 one of the most popular bands of the 1990s". The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album.
