How often do we juggle the term "unique" too thoughtlessly? Often enough and thoughtlessly enough that we stop noticing the truly unique things in life in the banal confusion of everyday life. British newcomer Birdy gives a whole new meaning to the word with her debut album! Unique, special, individual, amazing. Terms that can be applied without reservation to the work of an exceptional 15-year-old artist from the New Forest in Hampshire. It wasn't just the internet community that took notice, sparking a real Birdy hysteria in less than six months when more than 10 million people clicked on her YouTube videos! It's hard to believe that such a fragile and young creature can belt out such a pure, unadulterated yet powerful voice full of emotion that is unparalleled in the entire pop scene. Unique all the way: Only a small number of female singers manage to transform a well-known song by a foreign author into something unprecedented and exciting. Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, aka Birdy, is completely different, because she transforms every song on the album "Birdy" into her own version. Already as a baby, the first hints of her early career as a star appeared: at feeding time, Jasmine opened her beak so wide that her parents almost automatically gave her the name Birdy. The name remained, the golden voice was added a little later. At the age of seven, Birdy was learning to play the piano for the first time, and by eight she was writing her first songs on the keyboard, which she proudly showed off to her large family. At twelve, she made her first appearance on YouTube and everything else is history. Birdy loves the spartan nuances, the harsh nuances, the emotional fragility. And she likes to surprise with new interpretations, which the Brit has already proved with her debut single, an acclaimed cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love". Thanks to this highly acclaimed cover version, the charismatic teenager has built a huge fan base on Facebook, Myspace, YouTube and Twitter in a short space of time, stayed in the coveted A-rotation on Radio 1 for over 7 weeks, broken through to a fantastic Top 10 on the iTunes alternative chart in the US, France and Germany and has sold well over 150,000 units to date in the UK alone! Birdy has also earned the title of "Record of the week" on Fearne Cotton's radio show of the same name and appeared on an episode of the US TV hit "The Vampire Diaries" with the song "Skinny Love". The extraordinary singer-songwriter, who celebrated her 15th birthday in May, has had a truly lightning career! Influenced by modern performers such as Adele, The XX, Bon Iver and Paolo Nutini, as well as classical music, Birdy has quickly specialised in atmospheric and emotive interpretations of contemporary rock and pop songs. With increasing success, as evidenced by her own version of The XX's "Shelter", which Birdy immediately hit the Top 50 of the iTunes charts upon its release! On "Birdy" she now covers songs by Cherry Ghost, The National, Phoenix, The Postal Service and James Taylor in her inimitable way. "I want to show people my own style," explains Birdy, who is also preparing for her upcoming graduation. "Although of course it's also very nice to have a song on the album `Without A Word' that they wrote themselves!" "I like listening to other people's songs," Birdy explains of her eclectic song selection. "I usually sit at the piano and come up with arrangements that suit me and my voice. Everything else pretty much works itself out," as evidenced by her collaborations with top producers Rich Costey (Muse, TV On The Radio?), James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, The Klaxons?) and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys?), with whom Birdy worked on the 'Birdy' album in London and Los Angeles. "They all helped me immensely, supporting me with ideas, good advice and lots of suggestions," she comments on the recordings. Sunday Times Culture described Birdy as "a singer who delivers much more than her vocals", Star Magazine praised her "absolute musicianship" and Mizz is "impressed" by Birdy. "Do I have a lot of my own material for a second album as well?" Birdy says, already cautiously announcing a follow-up album, 'Birdy'. "I can't wait to finish the raw demos and see the fan reaction to my own tracks!" But until then, it's not such a long road for Miss Birdy, who is just starting to live her big dream. Though reality doesn't always match her blossoming imagination. "I've learned that you have to work hard to succeed. You don't get anything for free, I didn't realize that before. I always imagined fancy glitzy parties that you arrive at in a limo. But I haven't been invited to one yet!" Birdy - a fascinating source of youthful contradictions. Whether she's a heartbreakingly shy and nervous person or a focused stage performer. Whether she's vulnerable or stubbornly battling her producers: Birdy is unique, quirky, amazing. And utterly unique. And that's at first sight. Reviews ,,... Her first album is out now in Germany, featuring cover versions of songs by lush, quirky bands like Phoenix and Fleet Foxes. Despite her age, Birdy proves her taste, her rather soft voice already reveals her personality, for example in Bon Iver's touching "Skinny Love". Suitable not only for teenagers." (Stereo, April 2012) "The teenager from England is poised to become the newcomer of the year with great cover versions of The XX, Fleet Foxes, Phoenix and The National." (musikexpress, April 2012) , "If Birdy survives this hype, we can expect much more from her in the future." (stereoplay, May 2012)
Album spans genres Piano Rock, Adult Contemporary and Chamber Pop.
