It follows her third studio album 25 (2015) and is her first album in three years. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, selling 1.5 million copies in its first week. It also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, where it sold 1.2 million copies in its first week, becoming Adele's third consecutive US number one album. The album received a platinum record from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for delivering one million copies in the United States.
