Buck Owens

Buck Owens

Country Music Legend and Pioneer of the Bakersfield Sound

Buck Owens was a prominent figure in American country music, known for pioneering the Bakersfield sound—a style characterized by a raw edge and a rock-influenced beat that stood in contrast to the polished sounds coming out of Nashville in the 1950s and 1960s. Born Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. on August 12, 1929, in Sherman, Texas, he eventually adopted the name Buck Owens. His career took off in the early 1960s with a string of hits including "Act Naturally," which was later covered by The Beatles, and "Love's Gonna Live Here."
