Hermann Schey

Hermann Schey

German Baritone and Lieder Singer

Hermann Schey was a German baritone singer renowned for his performances in both opera and lieder. Born on September 11, 1895, in Gailingen, Germany, Schey's career spanned several decades during which he became particularly noted for his interpretation of works by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Gustav Mahler. Although primarily associated with the concert stage rather than opera, he was a versatile artist who also taught singing. Schey was a prominent figure in the European classical music scene during the mid-20th century and collaborated with many leading conductors of his time. His recordings, including those of Bach's "Matthäus-Passion" and other works, have contributed to his lasting legacy in the world of classical music. He passed away on December 6, 1981, in Amsterdam, leaving behind a rich discography that continues to be appreciated by classical music enthusiasts.
