GRAME

GRAME

GRAME is a French experimental/electroacoustic music center and ensemble, established in 1982 by Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou and James Giroudon, and based in Lyon. GRAME is one of the six National Centers for Musical Creation in France. See also Studios GRAME. The Grame's primary mission is to design and realize innovative works, and to ensure their proper dissemination and promotion while contributing to the international scientific and musical research. Each season, over twenty French and foreign composers, performers, researchers, and artistic teams are invited for GRAME residency, where they find a top-notch technological environment and all necessary artistic and production assistance to create new music, ranging from solo pieces to large ensembles, operas, AV installations, interdisciplinary projects, and other forms of performance and exhibition. Three in-house scientific teams are working at Studios GRAME, specialized in real-time communication systems, computerized musical representation and performance, and multiple programming languages. In 1992, GRAME established a regular Musiques en Scene festival, organized as Biennale Musiques en Scène since 2002. Among featured guests and resident artists in 2008–12 were Peter Eötvös, Kaija Saariaho, and Michael Jarrell; Heiner Goebbels (2014), Michel van der Aa (2016), and Michaël Levinas (2018) were selected in the following years. In parallel with the Biennale, a Journées Grame event is regularly held in Lyon. Associate Composers: Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou James Giroudon Yann Orlarey Jérôme Dorival Jean-François Estager (since 1983) Robert Pascal Denys Vinzant Past residents: Jean-François Denis – artist-in-residence in '88 André Serre-Milan Magdalena Długosz … GRAME prize winners: Emanuele Casale Javier Torres Maldonado (2006) …
