Jungle

Jungle is a largely exemplary style of electronic rave music that emerged in the early 1990s in the UK. The genre was based on styles such as hardcore and techno, often using the same breakbeats and equipment. Jungle is characterized by high tempos (averaging 140 to 175 BPM), choppy and often only seemingly random breakbeat sequences, strong bass lines, reggae and soul influences, and the iconic sound of Akai's cyclical timestretching. Jungle also focuses on a sense of atmospheric intelligence in contrast to the violent sound of the drums and high-tempo bass lines, juxtaposing the sounds of Romplers and new-age song samples with the heavy and relentless chopping of breaks like the famous Amen break.
