Electroacoustic

Electroacoustic music is a genre of Western art music [not verified in the flesh] in which composers use technology to manipulate the timbre of acoustic sounds, sometimes through signal processing, such as reverb or harmonization, on acoustic instruments. It originated around the middle of the 20th century after the incorporation of electric sound production into compositional practice. The initial development of electroacoustic music composition for fixed media during the 20th century is linked to the activities of the Groupe de recherches musicales [fr] at the ORTF in Paris, which houses musique concrète, the Cologne Studio for Electronic Music.
