Celtic Metal

Celtic metal is one of the subgenres of folk metal that emerged in the 1990s in Ireland. It combines traditional Celtic music with heavy metal. The pioneers of the genre were the Irish bands Cruachan, Primordial and Waylander. As the popularity of the genre grew over time, it spread beyond Ireland's borders and is now played by many other bands. Celtic metal, like folk metal proper, is often mixed with other metal genres such as black metal, doom metal or death metal. In addition to the traditional instruments of heavy metal, instruments such as the violin, flute, bagpipes, bodhran, ninero and mandola are used.
