Vazz

Vazz were from Glasgow, Scotland and existed in the mid-1980’s. The group consisted of Hugh Small (all music and instruments) and Anna Howson (all voices and lyrics) and were featured on the late, great John Peel show on BBC Radio One a few times. Their first cassette-only release "Whisper Not" contained seven demo tracks from 1982 and was recorded at the legendary Hellfire Club in Glasgow. Only 100 copies were made/distributed. Operation Twilight - a sublabel of Belgian Les Disques Du Crépuscules - scheduled it for release as part of the 2xLP compilation "Antelopes & Alligators". That release never saw the light of day but a vinyl edition with six of the tracks was released in early 2012 on the Forced Nostalgia label (FN004). Vazz released 3 singles and a mini-album called 'Your Lungs & Your Tongues' during the 1980's. In June 2013, Forced Nostalgia released a 16 track CD anthology titled 'Chronoillogical' (FN010CD). This collection featured all the tracks from the 3 singles and the mini-album. In November 2014, the track 'Cast Reflections' appeared on 'Fabriclive 78' - a Fabric Records CD compiled by Illum Sphere. In September 2017, STROOM released the vinyl LP 'Submerged Vessels & Other Stories' (STRLP008) - a collection of previously unreleased Vazz tracks from the 1980's and more recent instrumentals dating from 2014 -2016. The first pressing of 750 copies came with a bonus CD of Hugh Small's piano music from 2014 - 2016. In November 2017, Forced Nostalgia re-issued the 'Chronoillogical (Glasgow Recordings 1982 - 1987)' CD as a limited edition double CD which included Hugh Small's 'Piano Music (2014 - 2016)' CD. This release was limited to 123 individually numbered copies. At the beginning of 2018, a digital-only collection of instrumentals called 'Boutique Music (Edinburgh Recordings 2010 - 2017)' was made available via the Vazz Bandcamp page - https://vazzmusic.bandcamp.com/ September 2019 saw STROOM release the follow up collection to 'Submerged Vessels & Other Stories' - 'Cloud Over Maroma' (STRLP030) featured five tracks from the 2012 'Whisper Not' LP on Forced Nostalgia (FN004) as well as the band's first single 'Breath' and more recent instrumentals and piano pieces. In 2020, four digital-only collections of previously unreleased tracks were released on Bandcamp. 'Related Objects' LP, 'Viridians' mini-LP, 'Introversa' EP and 'Mas Mezquitas' EP.
