Czech Conductor and Violinist

Václav Neumann was a renowned Czech conductor, violinist, and violist, best known for his work as the chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held from 1968 to 1990. Born on September 29, 1920, in Prague, he was a prominent figure in the Czech classical music scene throughout the second half of the 20th century. Neumann was also one of the founding members of the Smetana Quartet, which he played with from 1945 until 1956.
