The Wedding Present is a British indie rock group formed in Leeds in 1985 by singer and guitarist David Gedge, the band's mainstay throughout its history. Known for their jangly guitar sound and Gedge's distinctive vocals, The Wedding Present quickly gained a following in the UK indie scene with their debut album "George Best" in 1987, named after the famous footballer. The album's raw energy and emotional honesty resonated with fans and critics alike. Following "George Best," the band released "Tommy" in 1988, which compiled early singles and BBC session tracks, further cementing their reputation for catchy melodies paired with heartfelt lyrics.
