Pachanga

Pachanga is a genre of music that is described as a mixture of syn montuno and merengue. This type of music has a festive, lively style and is characterized by happy, mischievous lyrics. The name Pachanga was coined in Cuba in 1959 after the release of the song La Pachanga by Eduardo Davidson. In 1961, three covers of La Pachanga brought worldwide attention to the style and started a dance trend among Latino populations in the United States. In the U.S., the style was promoted in Cuban dance halls in New York City along with other Latin-influenced styles such as Mambo. Pachanga is also a Cuban dance style.
