Zdeněk Svěrák is a renowned Czech actor, screenwriter, and dramatist, rather than being primarily known as a musical artist or composer. Born on March 28, 1936, in Prague, he has had a prolific career in the Czech entertainment industry. Svěrák is perhaps best known internationally for his work in the film "Kolya," which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1997. He co-wrote the screenplay and starred in the lead role. Alongside his film work, Svěrák has been involved in theater as a member of the Jára Cimrman Theatre, where he performs and contributes to plays about Jára Cimrman, a fictional Czech genius.
