British Psychedelic Rock Pioneer

Syd Barrett was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who became a prominent figure in the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s. Born Roger Keith Barrett on January 6, 1946, in Cambridge, England, he co-founded the band Pink Floyd in 1965 with Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason. As the original frontman and primary songwriter for Pink Floyd, Barrett was instrumental in the creation of their early work, contributing to their first two albums, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (1967) and "A Saucerful of Secrets" (1968). His innovative guitar work and imaginative compositions helped define Pink Floyd's early sound.
