Renaissance is a progressive rock band that formed in England in 1969. The band is known for combining classical and folk influences with rock, characterized by the use of symphonic orchestration and the distinctive five-octave voice of lead singer Annie Haslam. Renaissance underwent several lineup changes throughout its career, with Haslam joining in 1971 as a key member. The group achieved considerable success in the 1970s, particularly with the albums "Ashes Are Burning" (1973), "Turn Of The Cards" (1974), and "Scheherazade and Other Stories" (1975), which are often regarded as their creative peak. These albums featured a blend of melodic songwriting, complex arrangements, and virtuosic musicianship, helping to establish Renaissance as one of the premier acts within the progressive rock genre. Despite fluctuating popularity and various hiatuses over the years, Renaissance has maintained a devoted fan base and continues to perform with Haslam at the forefront.
