Padre Antonio Soler

Padre Antonio Soler

Spanish Baroque Composer and Organist

Padre Antonio Soler was a Spanish composer whose life spanned from 1729 to 1783. He is best known for his keyboard sonatas, of which he wrote over 120, and his six quintets for strings and organ are considered among the most important Spanish chamber music of the 18th century. Soler took holy orders at a young age and became a monk of the Order of St. Jerome. He served as the organist and composer at the Escorial palace, a royal site near Madrid, where he also taught music.
