Miklós Rózsa

Hungarian-American Film Composer and Conductor

Miklós Rózsa was a Hungarian-American composer best known for his work in film scoring. Born in Budapest on April 18, 1907, Rózsa achieved fame for his lush, dramatic scores that often evoked a sense of grandeur and historical depth. His career spanned over four decades during which he composed music for over 100 films. Rózsa won three Academy Awards for Best Original Score for his work on "Spellbound" (1945), "A Double Life" (1947), and the epic "Ben-Hur" (1959), one of his most celebrated compositions. In addition to his film work, Rózsa was also a respected composer of concert music, including orchestral works, chamber pieces, and concertos. His style was characterized by a blend of traditional classical forms with Hungarian folk influences. Rózsa passed away on July 27, 1995, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most distinguished composers in the history of cinema.
