Born as Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango on December 12, 1933, in Douala, Cameroon, he became an influential figure in world music, known for his eclectic sound that crossed cultural and musical boundaries. Dibango gained international fame with his 1972 hit "Soul Makossa," which is often cited as one of the first disco records. Throughout his career, he collaborated with a variety of artists from different genres and backgrounds, contributing to his reputation as a musical innovator. His extensive discography includes numerous albums that showcase his versatility and ability to blend different musical styles. Manu Dibango's impact on music extended beyond his recordings; he was also known for his dynamic live performances that captivated audiences around the globe. He passed away on March 24, 2020, but left behind a rich legacy that continues to influence musicians and music lovers alike.
