Swedish black metal band

Dissection was a Swedish black/death metal band formed in 1989 by guitarist, vocalist, and main songwriter Jon Nödtveidt. Their music is known for its melodic but forceful style, combining elements of traditional heavy metal with the aggression and dark themes of black metal. Dissection released their debut album "The Somberlain" in 1993, which quickly garnered attention within the underground metal community for its intricate guitar work and atmospheric elements. This was followed by their critically acclaimed second album "Storm of the Light's Bane" in 1995. The band's career was marked by controversy, including Nödtveidt's imprisonment for murder. After his release, Dissection released "Reinkaos" in 2006 and disbanded later that year following Nödtveidt's suicide. Despite their relatively small discography and tumultuous history, Dissection remains influential in the extreme metal genre.
