Dieterich Buxtehude

Dieterich Buxtehude

Baroque-era German-Danish organist and composer

Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637/39 – 1707) was a prominent German-Danish organist and composer of the Baroque period. His work, especially in the field of organ music, was highly influential and is considered a crucial link between the Renaissance and Baroque styles. Buxtehude spent most of his career in Lübeck, where he worked as the organist at St. Mary's Church for nearly four decades. He composed a wide range of vocal and instrumental music, but he is best known for his organ works, which include preludes, toccatas, fugues, and chorale settings.
