Cesare Siepi

Italian Operatic Bass

Cesare Siepi was an Italian opera singer, renowned for his deep and resonant bass voice. Born on February 10, 1923, in Milan, Italy, Siepi's career spanned over four decades, during which he became one of the leading basses of the post-war period. He made his operatic debut in 1941 at the Teatro Sociale in Schio as Sparafucile in Verdi's "Rigoletto." His international career took off after World War II, with a notable debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 1950, where he sang the role of Philip II in Verdi's "Don Carlo."
