Bobby (Boris) Pickett And The Crypt-Kickers

Bobby (Boris) Pickett And The Crypt-Kickers

60s Novelty Band Known for Monster Mash Hit

Bobby "Boris" Pickett was an American singer and songwriter best known for his 1962 hit novelty song "Monster Mash." The song, performed by Pickett and his backup band The Crypt-Kickers, was a humorous tribute to the dance crazes and horror movie themes popular at the time. It featured Pickett's impersonation of Boris Karloff, the actor famous for portraying Frankenstein's monster, and became a Halloween favorite. "Monster Mash" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart just before Halloween in 1962. Although Pickett was labeled a one-hit wonder, "Monster Mash" has endured as a holiday classic, re-entering the charts several times over the years. Pickett attempted to capitalize on the success of "Monster Mash" with other monster-themed tunes, but none reached the heights of his signature song. Despite this, his contribution to pop culture with "Monster Mash" has solidified his place in music history.
