Bend Sinister

Bend Sinister

Canadian Rock Band

From Seattle, pre-A Frames band. Previous incarnations (Impatiens, The Bends) existed in 1994 and 1995. When drummer Eddie Maxfield left The Bends, Steve Kaplan from Deep Traction joined Erin Sullivan and Min Yee in early 1996. Josh Turgeon (of Impatiens / The Bends) also joined and the band name was changed to Bend Sinister. The band used fakes names: Buster McCracken, Jim "Wolf" Jankowitz and Sum Yung Gai. There were a few shows toward the end of 1996 as a 4-piece but after Josh left the band they stayed a trio. Josh rejoined the bend in the summer of 1998 during their first tour of the US west coast. After the tour, Steve quit and Kaanan Tupper of Pointy Birds filled in for a few months until Lars Finberg joined at the end of 1998. Back as a 4-piece, the band decided to go for "maximum noise" and switched to three guitars and drums (no bass). By spring 1999, Josh had left the band again making the band a trio, again. Min Yee switched back to bass. That summer, after touring the west coast coast again, the band changed their name to A-Frames.
