The Beastie Boys, an American hip hop group formed in New York City in 1981, are renowned for their significant impact on the music industry, particularly within the hip hop and rap rock genres. The group originally consisted of three members: Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz. They started out as a hardcore punk band but transitioned to hip hop after experimenting with the genre on their early 12" records. Their debut album "Licensed to Ill" was released in 1986 and became the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart. It included hits like "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" and "No Sleep till Brooklyn."
