Agostino Steffani

Agostino Steffani

Baroque-era Italian Composer and Diplomat

Agostino Steffani (1654–1728) was an Italian composer, diplomat, and cleric of the Baroque era. His musical career began as a choirboy in Padua, and his talent was recognized early on, leading to his patronage by prominent figures such as Cardinal Borromeo. Steffani's compositions include a variety of vocal and instrumental works, but he is particularly noted for his chamber duets, operas, and sacred music. His style bridges the late Italian Renaissance and early Baroque periods, with a notable influence on later composers such as Handel.
