Springboard

Springboard

Known by its slogan, "America's Best Buy In Recorded Music", Springboard was founded in New Jersey in December, 1968 and was one of the most active budget labels during the 1970s. Initially operating as a subsidiary of Springboard International Records, Inc., in 1974 it acquired parts of the Scepter Records catalog from its founder, Florence Greenberg. In 1976, it acquired Musicor Records from its owner Art Talmadge. As a result, it routinely issued cut-rate compilations culled from the Scepter and Musicor catalogs as well as "Top of the Pops"-style Top 40 sound-a-like cover-version records, both of which were sold in K-Mart and other popular department stores. In 1980, its parent company filed for bankruptcy and was owned by Capitol Records until 1984 when Gusto Records, Inc. acquired the Springboard brand. Attention: There are several label variations. For example: boxed logo and unboxed logo, white or black rim, among others. Sometimes the Incorporated company name is mentioned, sometimes not. For this reason, please always provide label images for your submission. A full set of images would be best, to state ONE clear version, as requested in the submission guides. Please try to denote the runout information, too. Also if possible, include a mastering date. There are several addresses in New Jersey mentioned on the rear covers and labels that may be helpful when added to the release notes. Since Oct. 1976, the company also used its then-newly acquired address in Los Angeles. Where Springboard is the parent label i.e. on some Trip / Musicor / Upfront / Lakeside [and others] releases "A Product Of" is printed on the perimeter or sleeve please use Springboard International or Springboard International Records, Inc. as Record Company if printed as such. Canadian releases commonly denotes Springboard Records Of Canada.
