Tubeway Army

Tubeway Army

British New Wave/Synthpop Band

Tubeway Army was a British new wave band formed by Gary Numan in the late 1970s. The band was initially a punk-influenced trio consisting of Numan (vocals, keyboards), Paul Gardiner (bass), and Jess Lidyard (drums). They released their self-titled debut album in 1978, but it was their second album, "Replicas," released in 1979, that brought them commercial success. "Replicas" featured a shift towards a more electronic and synthesizer-driven sound, which would become a hallmark of Numan's subsequent work. The album included the hit single "Are 'Friends' Electric?" which topped the UK charts and helped to popularize the synth-pop genre.
