The Selecter

The Selecter

British ska revival band

The Selecter is a British ska revival band from Coventry, England, formed in the late 1970s as one of the key figures in the UK ska movement. They are best known for their energetic and politically infused music that combines the rhythms of ska with punk rock's intensity. The band was led by their charismatic frontwoman Pauline Black, whose distinctive voice became synonymous with The Selecter's sound. Their debut album "Too Much Pressure," released in 1980, was a commercial success and is considered a classic of the genre, featuring hits like "On My Radio." Following up with their second album "Celebrate The Bullet" in 1981, they continued to explore themes of social and political relevance. Although they disbanded in the mid-1980s, The Selecter has reformed several times with various lineups, maintaining a loyal fan base and continuing to perform live. Their contribution to the ska scene and British music has been significant, influencing many bands that followed.
