The Revolutionaries

The Revolutionaries

Reggae Backing Band from Jamaica

The Revolutionaries were a Jamaican reggae band formed in the 1970s, known for their instrumental dub tracks and prolific recording output. They were the house band for the Channel One studio, one of the most influential recording studios in Jamaica during that era. The band included a rotating lineup of some of the island's top musicians, including drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare, who would later form the rhythm duo Sly & Robbie. The Revolutionaries contributed to numerous recordings for various artists and producers, helping to shape the sound of reggae and dub music during their active years. They were instrumental in the transition from rocksteady to the roots reggae style that became internationally popular in the 1970s. Their work includes collaborations with key figures in reggae music and has left a lasting impact on the genre.
