The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic

The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic

Czech Symphony Orchestra

The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra is a Czech orchestra based in Zlín, named after the renowned Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. Established in 1945, the orchestra has developed a significant reputation both domestically and internationally. Over the years, it has been led by a number of distinguished conductors and has performed a wide-ranging repertoire, from classical to contemporary music. The orchestra often engages in recording projects and has produced numerous albums that showcase its versatility and skill. Their recordings include works by their namesake, Bohuslav Martinů, as well as other composers, reflecting their commitment to Czech music as well as broader European traditions. The albums "Piano Concertos Nos. 3 And 5 / Concertino" and "Piano Concertos 2" feature some of the ensemble's interpretations of piano concertos, while "Young Richard Strauss: Burleske; Serenade, Op. 7; Suite In B Flat, Op. 4" highlights their performance of early compositions by the German composer Richard Strauss. The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra continues to contribute to the cultural life of the Czech Republic and maintains an active concert schedule.
