Spotlight Kid

Spotlight Kid

British Shoegaze Revivalists

Nottingham based Spotlight Kid (thank Captain Beefheart for that name NOT Rainbow) were formed in 2005 by former Six By Seven drummer Chris Davis and ex Bent member Katty Heath (vocals). The result is music right out of the 90's shoegazing world. Early incarnations of the live band from 2008 featured Karl Skivington on guitar, Chris Davis on guitar and vocal duties and Kevin Bales on drums. One gig even featured occasional co-songwriter Marlek Alexander on joint vocal duties with Chris. Kevin amicably left and continued to drum for Spiritualized thereafter with Chris stepping back into the drum stool. Three members of local band Model Morning joined around this time too, being Rob McCleary on vocals and lead guitar, Chris Moore on effects guitar and Richard Davidson on bass. Richard later left in 2010 and was replaced by another local bassist, Matt Holt. The Crystal Dreams E.P. does not feature Katty's vocals, as she had moved away from the UK at that point and could not commit to the band, but she does perform the songs live. Karl and Chris Moore left in early 2013, prior to the release of the band's third album to concentrate on their full-time work and personal commitments. Current members are: Chris Davis on drums (plus chief songwriter and atmospherics), Katty Heath on lead vocals (and additional percussion and songwriting), Matt Holt (ex-The Kull on bass and Rob McCleary (ex-Model Morning) on vocal and lead guitar.
