Sir Arthur Somervell

Sir Arthur Somervell

British Classical Composer and Music Administrator

Sir Arthur Somervell (1863–1937) was a distinguished British composer and civil servant, known for his contributions to the musical landscape of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a significant figure in the English musical renaissance, a period that saw a resurgence of interest in national music and the development of a distinctly English style. Somervell studied at King's College, Cambridge, and later at the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Charles Villiers Stanford, another prominent figure in English music.
