Simon Ashdown

Simon Ashdown

Composer, sound designer and producer born and based in Bristol, UK. Other aliases: sevencolours Founder of SLATE + ASH. An emerging talent in the Film & TV industry, Simon Ashdown is currently building a strong reputation for writing creative and unique musical scores delivered with high production values. Finding his feet as a producer and DJ in Bristol’s flourishing Drum and Bass scene during the early 2000’s Simon explored a myriad of different musical genres in his search for inspiration as an artist. After writing and performing both solo and as part of various bands Simon was invited to compose the music for a digital media project, working in Africa for 3 months creating films for various conservation organisations. This led Simon to pursue a career working as a composer for film, starting with his collaboration with renowned Emmy award winning composer Barnaby Taylor on a documentary for the BBC Natural History Unit. He has gone onto work on several notable projects including further work for the BBC, Channel 4, HBO and Sky, recently finishing work on 4 part natural history series ‘Hebrides – Islands on the Edge’, for which he received a nomination at the prestigious Jackson Hole film fesrival. He’s currently working on a 6 part series for Nat Geo, produced by Atlantic Productions as well as series 3 of HBO/Sky production ‘Strike Back’. Alongside composing for Film and TV Simon continues to create work as a solo artist under the moniker ‘sevencolours’ as well as producing for other artists including former Mercury and Brit Award nominee Fred Deakin (of Lemon Jelly).
