Sandy Patton

Jazz Vocalist and Educator

Sandy Patton (b. 1948) is an American jazz singer and the former Jazz Vocal Professor at the Hochschule der Künste Bern in Switzerland (from 1993 to 2011). Not to be confused with folk musician Sandy Paton (1929–2009). Patton studied vocals at the Howard University, Washington D.C. and The University Of Miami, also touring with The University Of Miami Concert Jazz Band. As a vocal artist, Sandy had been collaborating with many distinguished jazz musicians. She toured with Lionel Hampton extensively, performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Paquito D'Rivera, Al Grey, Benny Bailey, Harry Edison, Clark Terry, Buddy Tate, Paul Kuhn, Cab Calloway, Bobby Durham, Frank Owens, and Bob Cranshaw. With the students of her New Dimensions workshop, Patton produced and directed eight "Jazz in Theater" performances, each exploring a particular genre or theme such as Broadway, Rodgers & Hart works, jazzier side of Motown, film music, etc. Patton has also been performing a concept show Sandy Loves Sammy, a live tribute to Sammy Davis Jr. One of her cousins was a member of The Marvelettes.
