Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

60s American Rock and Roll Band

Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs were an American rock and roll band formed in 1961. Fronted by Domingo "Sam" Samudio, their most famous hit was "Wooly Bully," released in 1965, which became a worldwide success and went on to sell three million copies. The song was a fusion of Tex-Mex, rock and roll, and R&B, showcasing the band's unique style and Samudio's distinctive voice. Although often associated with the garage rock movement of the 1960s, Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs' music also incorporated elements of novelty songs and theatricality, with Samudio often wearing a turban, adding to the band's distinctive image. Despite their initial success, the band struggled to maintain their popularity and eventually disbanded in 1967. Samudio continued to perform and record music as a solo artist but never replicated the success he had with The Pharaohs.
