Salomone Rossi

Salomone Rossi

Italian Renaissance Composer and Violinist

Salomone Rossi was a significant Jewish Italian composer and violinist who lived during the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, born in Mantua around 1570 and believed to have died in 1630. He was a groundbreaking figure in the history of Jewish music, as he was one of the first known composers to apply Western classical music traditions to Hebrew sacred music. Rossi served at the court of the Gonzaga dukes in Mantua, where he gained recognition for his instrumental music, madrigals, and his unique compositions for Jewish liturgy.
