René Pape

German operatic bass singer

René Pape is a distinguished German operatic bass with a career spanning several decades. Born on September 4, 1964, in Dresden, East Germany, Pape has become known for his rich, resonant voice and versatile repertoire. He made his debut at the Berlin State Opera in 1988 and has since become a regular presence at major opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he debuted in 1995. Renowned for his interpretations of Wagnerian roles, Pape has indeed performed in productions of "Tannhäuser" and "Parsifal," among other operas by Richard Wagner. His portrayal of key roles such as Gurnemanz in "Parsifal" and King Marke in "Tristan und Isolde" has been particularly praised for its depth and vocal mastery.
