Raymond Lévesque

Raymond Lévesque

Canadian Singer-Songwriter and Poet

Canadian author, composer, performer and actor. Born in Montreal, October 7, 1928. ✝ Died February 15, 2021. Initially a romantic singer influenced by Charles Trenet, he learned his trade in Parisian clubs (1954-59) before joining the Bozos, one of Quebec's first "chansonniers" groups. A talented storyteller and polemicist, he enjoyed great success in "boîtes à chansons", notably at "La Butte À Mathieu" where he wrote more than a dozen shows in the 1960s. Mixing song, humour and satyr, his style has been similar over the years to that of the Montmartrois singers of the early 20th century. A socially and politically engaged poet, he participated in numerous public events. Suffering from deafness, he left the stage in the mid-80s to devote himself to writing. Inducted into the "Panthéon Des Auteurs Et Compositeurs Canadiens (PACC)" in 2005.
