Půlnoc

Půlnoc

Czech rock band

Půlnoc was a Czech rock band formed in the late 1980s after the split of the earlier group The Plastic People of the Universe, which was known for its opposition to the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. The name "Půlnoc," meaning "midnight" in Czech, reflected a new beginning for the members of the band. Půlnoc continued in the tradition of its predecessor, playing rock music that was influenced by various genres and often carried political connotations. The band's existence was marked by the significant political changes in Eastern Europe, including the Velvet Revolution in 1989, which led to the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Půlnoc's music captured the spirit of change and freedom of that era. They toured internationally, including performances in the United States, which helped to spread their music beyond their home country. Although they disbanded in the early 1990s, Půlnoc's influence on Czech rock music and their role in the cultural landscape during a pivotal time in their country's history remain significant.
