Paul Sacher

Paul Sacher

Swiss Conductor and Patron of Classical Music

Paul Sacher was not an artist, composer, or band, but rather a renowned Swiss conductor and patron of classical music. Born on April 28, 1906, in Basel, Switzerland, he became one of the most influential musical figures of the 20th century through his support and commissioning of new works from prominent composers. Sacher founded the Basel Chamber Orchestra (Basler Kammerorchester) in 1926 and the Collegium Musicum Zurich in 1941. He was known for his close collaborations with leading composers such as Béla Bartók, Arthur Honegger, and Igor Stravinsky, among others.
