Jazz Saxophonist of the Duke Ellington Orchestra

Paul Gonsalves was an American jazz tenor saxophonist best known for his long tenure with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Born on July 12, 1920, in Brockton, Massachusetts, Gonsalves began his career in the early 1940s, playing with the Sabby Lewis Orchestra. He later joined the bands of Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie before becoming a pivotal member of Duke Ellington's band in 1950.
