Romanian Double Bass Virtuoso

Romanian bass player born October 18, 1962, Constanţa - passed away March 21, 2001 in Trieste, Italy. He was considered one of the great double bass virtuosos of the 20th Century. Bădilă studied in Bucharest with Ion Cheptea. In 1987 he emigrated to Western Europe, where he further studied with Sergiu Celibidache, Enzo Ferrari, Wolfgang Güttler, Franco and Jean Marc Petracchi Rollez. Bădila won several international competitions, such as in Mark Neukirchen (1985), Rheims (1988) and Donostia-San Sebastián (1989). In 1992 he became professor at the School of Music Trossingen, from 1997 also at the Music Academy of Basel. On May 23, 2003, two years after his death, he was awarded "Professor Honoris Causa - post-mortem" distinction of the National Music University of Bucharest.
