Matthews' Southern Comfort

Matthews' Southern Comfort

British Folk-Rock Group

Matthews' Southern Comfort is a band formed by Ian Matthews, who was originally a member of the British folk-rock band Fairport Convention. After leaving Fairport Convention in 1969, Matthews established his own band, which blended folk, rock, and country influences. The group is best known for their 1970 cover of Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock," which became a number one hit in the UK. Over the years, Matthews' Southern Comfort has experienced several changes in lineup and periods of inactivity. Ian Matthews (also known as Iain Matthews) has continued to have a prolific career both as a solo artist and with various other projects, releasing numerous albums that explore different musical styles while maintaining his roots in folk music. Matthews' Southern Comfort has seen a revival in recent years with new material and performances, including the release of the album "The New Mine" in 2020.
