Leopold Florian Gassmann (1729–1774) was an Austrian composer of the classical era, born in Brüx, Bohemia (now Most, Czech Republic). He moved to Vienna in 1751, where he became a prominent figure in the city's musical life. Gassmann's work was influential in the development of Viennese opera, and he was known for his operas, chamber music, and sacred works. He became a friend and mentor to the young Antonio Salieri and was instrumental in his development as a composer. Gassmann's compositions were well-regarded by his contemporaries for their melodic invention and skillful orchestration. Although not as widely remembered today as some of his contemporaries like Mozart or Haydn, Gassmann's music is occasionally performed and recorded, contributing to the understanding of the classical era's musical landscape.
