Julius Reubke

Julius Reubke

19th-Century German Composer and Pianist

Julius Reubke (1834–1858) was a German composer, pianist, and organist, known for his substantial contributions to the organ repertoire. Despite his short life—he died at the age of 24—Reubke left a significant mark on the world of classical music. He was a student of Franz Liszt, one of the most prominent composers and pianists of the 19th century, which earned him the reputation of being one of Liszt's most talented pupils. Reubke's most famous works include the Sonata on the 94th Psalm in C minor for organ and a Piano Sonata in B-flat minor. These compositions are celebrated for their technical demands and emotional depth, reflecting both his virtuosity as a performer and his innovative approach to composition. His works are often performed in concerts and recorded by various artists, contributing to his enduring legacy in the classical music canon.
