Johann Ludwig Krebs

Johann Ludwig Krebs

Baroque German Composer and Organist

Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713–1780) was a German Baroque composer and organist, highly regarded for his skill in keyboard and organ music. He was a student of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose influence is evident in his compositions. Krebs's works include a variety of organ pieces, such as preludes, fugues, and chorale preludes, as well as chamber music and orchestral works. His music is characterized by its contrapuntal craftsmanship and melodic beauty, reflecting the rich tradition of German Baroque music. Although Krebs was respected in his time, he did not achieve the same level of posthumous fame as his teacher Bach. However, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in his work, leading to more performances and recordings of his compositions. Despite the lack of widespread recognition during his lifetime, Krebs's contributions to the organ repertoire are now appreciated for their artistry and technical proficiency.
